[The Double Hook]

TEMiC consists of two consecutive 5-day courses:

Textual Editing and Modernism in Canada: Theory (May 17-21)
Textual Editing and Modernism in Canada: Practice (May 24-28)

The first course is theory oriented and the second focuses on experiential learning with the participants acquiring practical experience by working on an ongoing editing project under the direction of the course instructor. The theory course is a prerequisite for the practice course, although the two courses need not be taken in the same year. In 2010 the course instructor is Professor Zailig Pollock and the project is his digital edition of the Complete Poems of P.K. Page. There will be special emphasis on the Image Markup Tool being developed at the University of Victoria. Instruction in both courses will be supplemented by visiting speakers who will focus on aspects of textual editing relevant to both courses.

Textual Editing and Modernism in Canada: Theory is available as a stand-alone non-credit course. Textual Editing and Modernism in Canada: Practice is open to students who have completed the theory course in the current or a previous year. Like the theory course, it is available as a non-credit course. However, students who have completed both courses are eligible to receive a 0.5 graduate course credit from Trent University's MA in English (Public Texts) program, for ENGL 5101H — Textual Editing and Modernism in Canada: Theory and Practice. Students interested in the credit option should contact Professor Zailig Pollock.

Because of the intensive nature of TEMiC students are strongly advised to do preparatory reading in the areas of Canadian modernism and textual editing. See below for a link to preparatory readings.
